Description POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a motivated Junior Software Engineer (Temporary) to join our Grid & Energy Services team for a short-term assignment. This role is ideal for students currently studying computer science, software engineering, or related technical fields who are excited about building scalable software systems that power real-world energy infrastructure. In this role, the candidate will work closely with senior and principal engineers across teams including Energy Management Systems, Platform, Optimizer, DERMS, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering to contribute to software development efforts, support system design, and build AI-powered applications interacting with grid-scale energy systems. They will gain hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle, including development, testing, and deployment, while working on complex challenges at the intersection of software, AI, and modern energy infrastructure. RESPONSIBILITIESContribute to feature development across one or more engineering team rotations, writing production-quality Python code under the guidance of a senior or principal engineer. Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and retrospectives, learning how engineering teams plan, build, and ship software in a structured agile environment. Work with cloud infrastructure on Microsoft Azure and containerized workloads running on Kubernetes, gaining practical experience with the tools and platforms used in large-scale distributed systems. Engage with data pipelines, telemetry systems, and AI-assisted workflows, observing how machine learning and agentic AI components are integrated into a production energy management platform. Apply software engineering best practices including version control with Git, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines across all rotation assignments. Support reliability and observability work on the SRE team, including monitoring, alerting configuration, and incident response procedures for cloud-hosted services. Present a technical summary of work completed to the engineering team at the conclusion of the internship, demonstrating the scope of contributions made across rotations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, anticipated to begin senior year in the fall following the internship.
