Representative Duties • The Official Court Reporter attends and records verbatim by computer-aided technology all testimony for civil and criminal court proceedings. • Provide Realtime translation of court proceedings to the judge’s computer monitor and delivery of Realtime translation to the judge following adjournment. • At the request of a party or by order of the Court, the Court Reporter provides transcripts within the time frames and at the applicable per page rates in accordance with the regulations of the Judicial Conference. • Additionally, Court Reporters are responsible for determining that billings and formats comply with Judicial Conference requirements. • Court Reporters must adhere to the requirements of the Court Reporter Management Plan of this District and maintain accurate, legible records which are subject to audits. • This position also involves completing record-keeping forms, documenting the information contained in reports, as well as maintaining and safeguarding records until their disposition according to the statutory requirements and Judicial Conference policy. • Court reporters may be required to travel occasionally within the district. Minimum Qualifications • At least four years of prime court reporting experience in the freelance field of service or in other courts or a combination of both. • On the registry of professional reporters of the National Court Reporters Association or passed an equivalent qualifying examination. • Experience with computer-aided transcription (CAT) software or windows-based program. • Candidate must possess unquestioned integrity, trustworthiness, character, and the ability to maintain confidentiality; demonstrate sound and mature problem- solving skills and judgment in handling sensitive material; exhibit a professional and positive demeanor and a customer-focused attitude Required Qualifications Certification as a Realtime Reporter by having completed the Certified Realtime Reporter examination offered by the National Court Reporters Associations or having passed an equivalent qualifying examination. Benefits • Employees of the U.S. District Courts are not included in the government’s Civil Service classification. They serve under “excepted appointments” and are considered “at will” employees. They are entitled to the same benefits as other federal government employees which include: • Thirteen days of paid vacation per year for the first three years of employment which increases incrementally after the first three years. • Thirteen days of paid sick leave per year which can accumulate and be converted to time-in-service for retirement benefits. • Participation in a retirement program including a 401k with matching contributions. • Participation in the federal health insurance program of your choice. • Participation in a group life insurance program (optional). • Participation in a group dental and vision (optional). • Participation in a flexible spending account for medical and/or dependent care expenses on a pre-tax basis (optional). • A minimum of eleven (11) paid holidays per year. NOTE: Nevada does not have a state income tax.
