Design Operations is a highly technical cross-functional department involved with Epiq’s print and digital noticing. We handle large volumes of data and mailings for millions of recipients. Our work is deadline driven and often court ordered, requiring our team to quickly move between tasks and shift priorities. There are two divisions within our department: Design QA and Design Engineering. The Design Development Engineer is a member of the Design Engineering team in Design Operations. They play a vital role with their peers and Design QA Editors. Design Development Engineers will primarily focus on production work but will also balance participation in special projects and training initiatives. Supporting our production workload includes being responsible for the development of documents, multimedia campaign creation such as email, interactive voice broadcasting, SMS campaigns and formatting assets using data merging software. This will leverage knowledge of graphic design, conditional logic, HTML as well as JavaScript in order to be successful. The person in this role is responsible for discussing client needs and requirements with stakeholders as well as acting as a department representative. Design Development Engineers will be working on various aspects of multiple projects simultaneously. They will continue to build and maintain relationships intra and interdepartmentally in a remote environment. Essential Job Responsibilities • Develop documents for both digital and print noticing using Adobe design software; format assets to meet strict style guidelines, industry policies, and best practices. • Develop multimedia campaigns for email using HTML and vendor software. • Develop multimedia noticing campaigns for interactive voice broadcasting using vendor software. • Prepare, create, launch, verify, and oversee e-mail campaign creation through to completion. • Create dynamic data merges and implement conditional logic using internal vendor programming languages. • Discuss client needs and requirements with various internal stakeholders and provide expertise regarding development processes. • Consult and respond to client requests with knowledge of our departmental processes and offerings. • Present technical material in an understandable manner to technical/non-technical audiences and decision-makers to aid them in their decisions. • Participate in department special projects to improve internal process. • Participate in training initiatives • Appropriately escalate project roadblocks Qualifications & Requirements • 2 years of academic or practical work experience in InDesign, Photoshop, and Acrobat. • 1 to 3 years hands-on experience with the following: • Building relationships in a remote environment • Meeting court-ordered deadlines • Using vendor platforms to prepare, create, launch, verify, and oversee e-mail campaign creation through to completion • Windows platform and Microsoft Office suite • Typesetting and layout design practices • Maintaining accuracy throughout an iterative development process • Mail merges or integrating data with print and/or digital campaigns • Following regimented instructions while learning new software • Using Data-mapping software, including, but not limited to, developing and executing implementations based on written requirements involving dynamic conditional logic data masking, medium maps, and transactional information • XML and its relationship to data-driven design setups • Source data layout and troubleshooting associated output issues • JavaScript • HTML • Agile and waterfall project methodologies • Design Operations production process • Acting as a department consultant in interdepartmental meetings • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; able to adjust for intended audience.
